A currency question - COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 13 August 08 18:25 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I will be sending to Armagh for a copy of my ggrandparents marriage certificate.  I was told that fee is £12.00.   Is that 12 euros?  I have looked at several currency sites but they all seem to use 'eur' to designate the currency.  (I can't send credit card info as they do not have a secure site).

Ireland uses the Euro, and I'm sure that's what was meant.

But Armagh is in Northern Ireland which is part of the U.K. and uses the British Pound (Sterling) not Euros. The currency for payment probably depends on where you are ordering the certificate from.

Just had a look at the General Register Office, Northern Ireland site - link HERE.  Payment is most definitely in pounds sterling.  Only the Republic uses the Euro.

Thanks to meles, luas, aghadowey and Tati for answering my currency question.

The exchange rate makes 12 British pounds worth more than 22 USD. Ouch!
