MacPherson Census Help - completed thank you
« on: Sunday 31 August 08 13:26 BST (UK) »
Hi

Could a kindly soul with access to the 1901 census have a look up and see if they can find my family please?

I'm looking for Francis MacPherson b 1873 in Abernethy and his wife Lizzie Ann born c.1879. They married in Boat of Garten in 1890.

I know they had children called Francis, Jane, Annie, James, Duncan, Georgie and Tibby, but I've no idea of the order the children were born in. I suspect though that Francis was the eldest son as his father and grandfather were both named Francis and his mother was illegitimate so no father's name listed anywhere.

Francis and Lizzie also had a son John (my gr-Grandad) born in 1906 and a daughter Elma born in 1918, but I've no idea about the others so any help would be greatfully received.

Francis was a Gamekeeper by occupation.

Thank you all
Julz

Edited to add - I've looked on SP and there is 1 Francis McPherson age range 25-32 with a second person of Lizzie in Abernethy in 1901. I have no credits left so if someone with other access could look it up I'd be massively greatful.

They married in Boat of Garten in 1890.

If they married in 1890 - it seems unusual they had no children until 1901

Thank you for that Carole. That is definitely them as 'my' Francis was Francis William so fits perfectly.

That does seem very strange. Especially as Francis wasn't an only child so not a random one-off birth. The definitely married in 1890 as I have a copy of the certificate/entry.

I wonder if they had a child/children who died perhaps? I shall look into it.

I note that this thread ended some time back but the information in the thread appears relevant and thought I would try anyway? Am seeking information on my grandfather James McPherson. Son of Lizzie and Francis McPherson. He was a memeber of the Imperial Police Force in Singapore when it fell to the Japanese. He spent the remainder of the war in Changi Prison. After the war he was Chief Inspector of the Food Control Unit. He left Singapore in 1947. He married my Grandmother in Singapore. My mother was born in Singapore. Both left at the fall of Singapore and came to Australia. Clearly my Grandmother and Grandfather went separate ways after the war. I never met him so any help very much appreciated.

Hi! It was definately worth a try!

Your Grandfather James (Jimmy in all the things I've come across) was brother to my Gr-Grandad John Arthur. Their brother Duncan was in the Hong King Police and also spent the war time in captivity. My Gr-Grandfather walked with a limp after breaking his ankle as a child so spent the war working in Fort William in the aluminium smelter. In a (particularly cruel) twist of fate the chemicals used in the factory saw him die very young, and he never knew that both of his brothers survived their internment.

Do you want to message me and we'll connect via email? I can help with the family tree from Scotland.
