It took a while, but I've had a look & cannot find any of the names in the areas you mentioned.  It's always worth checking though!

Just a long shot, but do you have any McNabs in Glasgow - specifically a William McNab who had a "Sign writing" or "Showcard" business?

Is there any mention of Stringer in your book? Glasgow area, especially if there is any reference to adoption, carpentry, crime, joining the armed forces and  the names Dominic, Michael, Jack, John and Patrick.
