seion welsh baptist chapel cefn mawr
« on: Thursday 11 September 08 21:49 BST (UK) »
Hi

Does anyone have any pictures & information regarding this chapel? I have recently discovered that John Henry Phillips was a deacon of this chapel before he passed away in 1969.

John was the eldest son of Winifred & John Phillips. Winifred was the younger sister of my Gr Gr Taid Edward Jones of Llangollen.

Thanks

I don't have any pictures Jeannie but Clwyd FHS have compiled a booklet of Baptisms and Burials of the Seion Chapel. As you may know all that remains now are a collection of old Gravestones in a Garden of Remembrance.

would you happen to have any pictures of John Henry Phillips and his family?

I went to see where the chapel used to be yesterday, though now a house and garage stands where the chapel was once - though you can see a graveyard behind.

I found John's grave yesterday and his mother's Winifred's.

Thanks

I have tried to attach a photo of the laying of the foundation stone of Seion, Cefn Mawr; however the file is too big for this site. The Portly get at the front left is my great great step-grandfather. I have various other pics of members of the chapel.
Let me know how I can send it to you.

Just 3 or 4. My great-grandfather John Roberts and several of his brothers started their religious education there. He went on to be a Baptist minister in the valleys; know as Roberts the God.
