Tranter Family Birmingham
« on: Friday 12 September 08 15:42 BST (UK) »
Hi all I am trying to put the pieces together for my Tranter family but have hit a roadblock - once again !!

I have Philip Tranter m Ann Beddoe 1772 Ludlow. They moved to Birmingham and had the following children:

Elizabeth b abt 1773 Birmingham
Joseph b abt 1775 Birmingham
Ann b abt 1783 Birmingham
Philip b abt 1785 Birmingham
I feel there must be more children as there is a huge gap in the years but I can't seem to find anything.

I know absolutely nothing about Elizabeth, Ann and Philip ...

I then have Joseph Tranter b abt 1775 m Ann Wootton
They had the following children:

Joseph b 1784 Birmingham
Dollas Benjamin b 1814 Birmingham
Ann b 1817 Birmingham
Henry b 1820 Birmingham
Mary Ann Frances b 1825 Birmingham
Maria b 1828 Birmingham

The only one of the above children I know anything about is Dollas Benjamin as he is my 2great grandfather and was transported to Australia.

I hope someone can help me to fill the gaps on this family ...

Thanks Siamese68 :)

Below are the Tranter burials taken from the NBI as you can see there is a Philip buried in 1812.As there is no age it could be father or son but probably father as Sue looks to have found the son. There are no other births for this family other than what you have. There may have been deaths through miscarriage which was common at this time.

JOSEPH TRANTER
ANN WOOTON
Marriage:  11 OCT 1802   Edgbaston, Warwick

JOSEPH TRANTER
Birth:  17 JUL 1808
Christening:  06 OCT 1808   Saint Martin, Birmingham, Warwick
Father:  JOSEPH TRANTER
Mother:  ANN

but also at St Martin (not looking at the other Birmingham churches)

JOSEPH TRANTER
Christening:  29 SEP 1801   Saint Martin, Birmingham, Warwick
Father:  JOSEPH TRANTER
Mother:  CHARLOTTE

and

JOSEPH TRANTER
MARY NEAL
Marriage:  26 NOV 1804   Saint Martin, Birmingham, Warwick

With possibly several Joseph Tranters in Birmingham how are you sure the Joseph Tranter baptised in 1775 at St Phillips Birmingham is the same man who married Ann Wooton in 1802?

The actual baptism entries in the church registers certainly after 1812 will give the father's occupation.

1851 census HO107 2058 folio 382
218 New John Street West St George Birmingham
Philip Franter Unmarried 66 Assistant Surgeon Militia Birmingham Warwickshire

On the 1861 census in Warwick he is a 'Surgeon 1st Warwick Militia'.

An officer position with some medical training at least which would require finance of some sort within the family, so not a working class family. As Philip died unmarried he may very well have left a will which might specify family relationships.

Regards

Valda

Thank you for the info so far gigg, valda and suz...
Its been very interesting and definately given me something to work with.
I know before the Tranters came to Birmingham they came from the family of Traunters/Tranters in Herefordshire who were quite well off.
I've got several of the family wills but they don't seem to tell me where the property and money eventually went.
I'll keep everyone posted with how i get on and if anyone finds anymore info feel free to pass it my way !!!
Once again thankyou
Siamese  :) :) :)
