Houghton le Spring marriage- Gibson
« on: Saturday 29 January 05 14:08 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find the marriage of a Robert Gibson and Ann, surname unknown. I think they would have married in Houghton le Spring sometime around 1808 . Ann was not born in Durham according to the 1841 census and I am unable to find any other info for Robert so not sure where he was born. He was subsequently killed in a mine explosion in 1823 with his son John which left Ann with 2 small children and 7 months pregnant. Am really up against a brick wall here so any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi Paul.
As far as I can work out Robert and his son John aged 42 and 15 were killed in an explosion in Plain Pit, Rainton in November 1823. Robert left his wife Ann aged approx  37 who was at the time 7 months pregnant, a daughter Ann who then in 1841 married Edward Gardener, and possibly another son James. Ann then had John, (named after her dead son) who was christened June 1824. Robert and Ann were my 3x's great grand parents.
