John Franklin bap Eye, Northants in 1791
« on: Saturday 20 September 08 10:45 BST (UK) »
My Franklin Family were all from the Peterborough area - mainly Newark, Eye and Eye Green.
I understand this was once in Northamptonshire, but is now in Cambridgeshire. I hope I am correct  :-\
This subject is recorded in IGI as being married to a "Catherine".  I am interested in his siblings and forbears if anyone can help.  I would particularly like to know the Church that held records for this area (the changes of County etc affecting Peterborough have gotten me confused) and whether the Parish records are available for lookups.
Thanks.

Eye parish register is in Northants Records Office - see http://www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/Community/record/Parregs.htm#top

Newark is in Notts, and so far as I know has always been in Notts

There is also a Newark in Peterborough - next to Eye, Eye Green and Thorney.  This is the one that used to be in Northants, but (I believe) is now in Cambs ???  Confusing isn't it!
I had made the same mistake and searched the Notts registers in vain.  Wasted a lot of time in so doing ;D
Thanks for the link.

That Newark doesn't appear in www.genuki.com which is where I looked, as it's not a parish in its own right. It was a chapelry within the parish of St. John the Baptist, Peterborough, so it's that parish register you need to search, and that too is held at Northampton

Thanks for that.  I can see from the map that Newark was soon 'swallowed' up by Peterborough.
