My previous query on here drew a blank, so I hope you can help me.

I am an Allison too descended from the the Allendale/Jarrow area and Thos Allison and Mgt Paxton his wife (Berwick/Scotland) etc. They had an extra child, Frances, not on your list born 1862 at Langley. And so on. I have a lotta stuff on the Paxtons in particular.

My grandfather was Geo Alex Allison, their 9th child.

It seems that no-one has welcomed Spuggy to rootschat - so, welcome, Spuggy  :)

Molar has been on the site this last week but I'm wondering whether she has changed her email address and hasn't had a notification of your posts.

You should now be able to send her a personal message but, just to be sure, make another post on here and then you definitely will.

Christine

Thanks everybody on this one. Apologies for not responding earlier but I have only discovered your responses this morning.

My problem was tracing William Oliver Allison (WOA) d1841. Margaret Moor (MM) was easy find and I have the Marriage Cert of her son Thomas at Warden near Haydon Bridge. Thos was/is my Gt Grandad.

I was working on the basis that Thos was illegitimate and that WOA had run off and left MM.

Then the Waggott connection hit me ! Thanks.

Yes - thanks. It seems father WOA died shortly after Thos birth leaving a young widow MA/MM. She worked in service, keeping Thos with her, and married Mr Moor about 10 years later bearing him several children. They are all on the census and later the Moors reappear as lodgers with TA family in Jarrow.

Brilliant. So tackled the Waggotts next. But will do another post or this will be too long.

A reply to my own post ! Sorry.

All the above on Margaret (MW/MA) seems OK with my research. Anybody know how WOA died ?

But her parents Ralph and Ann, etc are causing a few problems.

At 1st I could not trace them but discovered they were from another lead mining area over the hill from Allendale, Upper Swaledale at Gunnerside/Lodge Green. There is even a Waggott researcher looking for contacts see link
http://gunnerside.info/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=200

£5 reward for anyone who can register there -  I give up  !!!

As is common with my lot, they keep handing down family names - seems everybody is called Ralph and they keep marrying their Waggott cousins ! Any help on that one would be appreciated. But they do go well back thanks to very good church/chapel registers.

Seems us Waggotts are so pleased with our name, there is even a special Waggott Site with a list of every Waggott in the world, B, D, and M's + witnesses :

Link  :  http://www.jboyweb.com/waggittgenealogy/database.htm
(just Google "Waggott")

I've edited it down to 3 pages for the NE alone !

Geography is Gunnerside and Green Lodge next door, Muker, Grinton, Marrick, Reeth if you are searching.

"Me Pleased ?" Get it ? Waggitt like a dog ! Aw, K'mon ! That's how we got our name.

PS - Yes William Oliver Allison died 1843, not 1841 as I typo'd above - my error. Note that the "Oliver" bit is on the cert's for his son Thos. His widow, our MW/MA/MM would know best. A search for his Allison family throws up a few Olivers as a family name

And there are 2 Margaret Waggotts who died at Hexham 1840 and 1841 respectively  - a goose chase - dont bother - been there - DEFINITELY not our Margaret Waggott - Allison - Moor.

PPS - Warden Church used by the our family is one of the oldest Anglo-Saxon Churches in the country - well preserved, well kept, and well worth a visit if you are in the N Tyne area. No doubt built with stone nicked from the nearby Roman wall.
