Landican and Flaybrick Cemetery, Birkenhead, Cheshire
« on: Tuesday 30 September 08 19:23 BST (UK) »
Hi

Could someone tell me where i will be able to find the burial records for Landican Cemetery, Birkenhead, Cheshire.  Have found out that a lot of my ancestors are buried here.

Also was there a diphtheria epidemic in Birkenhead in 1921.  How would i go about looking for a burial at Flaybrick Cemetery would have been in a communal (paupers) grave would there have been any records taken.

Thanks

Hi

depending on where you are, Birkenhead library is the place to go. Landican opened 1934 and the library hold records until about 2000. Although records from 1960 do not show address. Also they have no cremation records.

The library also holds Flaybrick cemetery records. it is quite easy to search these.

I think that Cheshire record office would also hold them,,, but only ever look at them in Birkenhead library.

Maybe if you gave a name and date, someone could help you.

Hi Barnes75,

The last time I looked at Flaybrick Cemetery records they were on microfilm at Birkenhead Central library reference section
I cannot remember whether the Landican records are there or whether they are at the cemetery itself as Landican is still in use.

At Flaybrick the burials are all in date order even if they are in a communal grave. If they are in a private grave it is easier to find out who else is in the grave.
When I have looked through the records it is a slow process.

The e-mail address of the library is:
birkenhead.ref@wirral-library.net

If they are not prepared to look through the records for you let me know and I will see what I can do.
Regards
Brian

Hi all

Birkenhead Central Library does have burial records for Flaybrick and Landican.  (I think Flaybrick opened about 1864).  They're both on microfilm - it helps to know the religion (as the films are recorded according to date and religion.)

The records are also held at Wirral Archives - they've recently moved to the Cheshire Lines building in Canning Street Birkenhead - thought it might be useful to know.

I've enclosed the link.

But it isnt actualy in canning street ;D ;D
The entrance to the archives is at the back of the building,if you have a car thats O.K there is a car park and new signs. If you go on foot the best way in is through the gate at the side of the building,(front of) otherwise you go full circle if you follow the how to get there instructions ;D ;D

Hi

As I said in the Pm this morning, I was going to the library.

I found Esther

ref 35979
Buried 26 Sept 1921 aged 4 daughter of Thomas.
Residence 99 Grange Road, Birkenhead
Public Grace section 7 no 377

Before I went to the library I looked up for the reference of Edna, but could not find one on the GRO. I looked in the C O E in Landican and she is not buried there. Maybe Non Conformist or maybe Catholic.
Maybe she has married and or died at a different date. (I searched 1959inc - 1962).
If someone can find the qtr and year, I will have another look for you.

Regards
