Help needed
« on: Tuesday 01 February 05 20:03 GMT (UK) »
I have my grandads birth records but want to find his older sister.

Her name was Annie Cooper. Quite a common name.
I have searched for the GRO ref but have found 5 possibles.

How can i distinguish between them without buying 5 certificates?

Best Wishes

Hi Pauline

Apply direct to the local registry office concerned and tell them that you want the certificate for (full name) daughter of (parents names) born approximately.  They will only send the correct certificate and won't charge you for checking.

Thankyou for your reply.

I thought they all charge extra for searches. Unfortunately i have only narrowed it down to 1902-1906.

Thanks again

Hi Pauline

No they don't all charge extra.  They might search for a year or two either side of the date you give.  Like everything, some are more customer friendly than others.   Why not give it a go?
