I was in the area this morning so had a detour down Chidswell Lane...I would say the farm is still there, there are a number of old buildings in the area some getting renovated.

Hi Ady,

Thanks so much for taking that detour.

You don't happen to know how I could find out about the farm as it was in the 1800's do you?

HI

If you go to this website

http://www.old-maps.co.uk/IndexMapPage2.aspx

then near the top left hand of ths screen as you sat looking at it is a search box type in Chidswell Farm

then click go

the next page that loads will give you one option on a drop down box that it has found click on it and you will be presented with about 8 different maps.

Have a play aorund and see what you can see when you zoom in - unfortunatley the name of a farm does not show

Hi,
Elliots butchers had a shop on leeds road, this is now a chinese restaurant and next door to shaw cross school. The farm was also on the main leeds road on the opposite side. the new road that was
built some years ago next to the petrol station runs right through where it used to be.

Hello janey213

Thank you for your reply, it's great to hear about new information about the farm.
I'd no idea that it was a similar area to the petrol station.
My grandfather also had an Elliott's butchers but in another local town.  Do you happen to know which Elliott family member had the shop at Shaw Cross?  I'd love to add this information to my tree.   Thanks also for info about where the shop used to be, I didn't know it was where the Chinese shop is now.

Kind regards

Heidi

Hi,
I found an old image of some of the farm buildings, if you search for shawcross railway tunnell, an image of the tunnell which has now been filled in shows the buildings in the background. The image is
also on forgottenrelics.co.uk. I know that the last person trading as elliots butchers was roy elliot, sorry I can`t remember the name of who I presume was his father or grandfather, the person who
ran the butchers shop as it closed a long time ago. I did visit the farm at times as a young girl to
help milk the cows. I have happy memories of those times, if I am able to find any more information
I will pass it on to you.
