1881 the only children at home with martha were Sydney 13, Alfred F 11, Ada Annie 7, Frederick G 5 and Arthur E 7mths

I can find no mention of Florence with mother/parents in any census.
1871 there is also Harry J age 5 b Poole

I will try to find what happened to them

What I have discovered so far

Alfred Hood married Martha Elizabeth Burney parrott
Marriage reg FreeBMD Jun qtr 1868 poole 5a 505

Harry and Sydney were born before marriage and as birth reg cannot be found under Hood , possibly they were reg as Parrott

this looks like their birth reg FreeBMD

Harry J B Parrott
Mar qtr 1866
Poole
5a 283
he is entered as harry J Hood b Poole on 1871 census -so you will have to research him using both names- you have him as harry J Hood 1868 Weymouth - the harry J Hood c 1868 Weymouth is a different harry j hood and belongs to another family

Sydney Alfred parrott
Mar qtr 1868
Poole
5a 283
he appears as Sydney Hood in 1881 and Sydney A Hood in 1871-so he needs to be researched using both names

Alfred F Hood c 1870 -p.o.b given as Mddsx in 1871, Deptford kent in 1881 - cannot find a birth reg for him

Ada Annie Hood -this looks like her birth reg FreeBMD
Ada Annie W Hood
Jun qtr 1873
S Stoneham 2c 52
1881 p.o.b. given as Southampton

Frederick G Hood- birth reg FreeBMD
Frederick george K Hood
Jun qtr 1875
Swansea
11a 758
appears as Frederick G b Swansea on 1881 census

Arthur E Hood -cannot find birth reg -1881 he is entered as Arthur E Hood age 7mths Woolwich kent

More in a mo

George Hood's parents were James Hood  b 1735, married to  Mary Plowman May 29 1760 and he died
September 15 1809 buried in East Stoke

Elizabeth Skinner's parents were William Skinner and Sarah Fancy, they married in 1763

George Hood also happens to be my 4th great Grandfather

Hello Malcolm

Found this official notice dated 1807, in the London Gazette for Hood of East-Stoke, Dorset, whilst searching for my George Hood of Selby (unrelated to your Hood).

https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/16093/page/1638/data.pdf

London, November 25, 1807.
Notice is hereby given to George Hood, William Hood,
and Richard Hood, the Three Sons of Richard Hood,
of the Parish of East-Stoke, Dorsetshire, by Rachael Hood,
his late Wife, the Nephews of William White, formerly
Servant to Mr. Quinnell, of Chichester, and late of Ripley,
in Surrey, deceased, that if they do not, on or before the 24th
of June next, apply to James Taplin, of Maid-Lane, South-
wark, Maltster, or Abraham Fenn, of Cobham, Surrey, Vic-
tualler, the Executors of the said Deceased, and prove them-
selves respectively to have been resident within that Part of
the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland called
Great Britain, in the Month of May 1806, when the said
Deceased died, they will be excluded from all Benefit which
otherwise they would be entitled to under the Will of their
late Uncle, the said William White, deceased.

Looks like it gives some useful Hood of East Stoke relationships prior to 1807, including a reference to a Will of their Uncle William White!

This is precisely the kind of circa 1807 information I am seeking for my George Hood of Selby!

Kind regards Mark
