1861/1871 Angus, Scotland - DONALD

Hi List,

I was hoping someone could check either 1861/1871 Census for Dundee, Angus, Scotland for the following family:

John DONALD (b 1822? Angus), wife Elizabeth (b 1807 Fife), children: Wilhelmina (1851 Angus?) and John (1853 Angus?).

I have found a family on the 1861 that has the right children but the wrong father - see what you think

63 Argyle St St Andrews and St Leonards Fife - all b St Andrews except Laurence

Elizabeth   48

In 1871 - Wilhelmina (indexed as Wil??mina) is aged 20 b St Andrews and working as a housemaid at Blanship House  Dumbartonshire
Row; ED: 11; Page:  4; Line: 15

Hi Carole,

Yes, this would be them. It appears John was AKA Lawrence.
I also have a note that John (or Lawrence) died before 1872, so he may have already died and Elizabeth may have moved back with family?

Nothing on the 1871 for Elizabeth so either she died or re-married pre-1871.  I would think death was more likely given her age in 1861

Nothing in 1871 for son John

I checked the 1881 and John jnr is not on that either so 3 possibilities

Death
Emigration
Mariner - at sea

Son John came out to Australia in 1875, and Elizabeth and Wilhelmina around the same time (although I haven't been able to find them on shipping records).
Wilhelmina married William McKinnon in Dec 1872. Their first son was born Feb 1874 in Lanarkshire and 2nd son was born in 1875 in NSW.
