Could someone please find Hugh McLatchie in the 1841 Census.

He married Janet Peebles in 1841 & they appeared in the 1851 Census as
Hugh McLatchie, head, married, male, age 37, Agricultural Labourer, born in Kirkoswald, Ayrshire
Janet McLatchie, wife, married, female, age 32, born in Ballantrae, Ayrshire
Agnes McLatchie, daughter, female, age 9, born in Ballantrae, Ayrshire
Sarah McLatchie, daughter, female, age 7, born in Kirkoswald, Ayrshire
James McLatchie, son, male, age 5, born in Kirkoswald, Ayrshire
Jane McLatchie, daughter, female, age 2, born in Dailly, Ayrshire
Hugh McLatchie, son, male, age 5 months, born in Dundonald, Ayrshire

Would you believe it - they married on the day the 1841 census was taken

Marriage:  06 JUN 1841   Girvan, Ayr

If they were married after the census was taken, then they will not be on the '41 as a couple.

Where did they marry?

Yes, my Hugh McLatchie married 6 Jun 1841 Janet Peebles (born 31 Jul 1818, Bigpark, Ballantrae, Ayr).

The 1841 Census that you mention is close but can not be my Hugh. It lists;
Hugh McLatiche, 25, not born Ayr
Janet McLatchie 30, not born Ayr
James McLatchie 4, not born Ayr
George McLatchie 2, born Ayr
That couple are Hugh McLatchie & Janet FINDLY. None of that family seem to appear in the 1851 Scottish Census

I get the original documents from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and they had that entry under Hugh McClatchie. The hand writing looks like Hugh M Clatchie.

I will now see where that takes me, as I still don't know his parents.

Regarding Janet Peebles, you got the right one. My research has stalled at Janet's parents, being Nathaniel Peebles & Agnes Brown, both born Ballantrae, Ayrshire.

Have you tried the family naming scheme:

Agnes her mother, Sarah his mother and James his father.

Which would mean that Hugh's parents could be: James and Sarah.
