Hello - just joined. I am also looking for Powells in Pentrefelin, esp Thomas Powell c 1840, whose wife Ann is buried in pentrefelin with her daughter and sister. Thomas is my gggrandfather
Also some Morgans inc a captain Morgan who was the father-in-law of John Powell
Does this tie in?

All the best
Eryl

Just found your message re Pentrefelin. I surveyed the graveyard many years ago, will get back to you after checking it again. Will have a quick look for your Powells in the church/chapel records.

Hi there

was notified through rootschat of the last posting.Just as well, because this is an old thread!

Can we clarify that we are all talking about the Pentrefelin / Pentrevelin in Brecon north of Devynnock ?
Well,that's the one I mean !

Have the Pentrefelin church/chapel records been published anywhere or are they available anywhere
online ?
I'm looking particularly for any record of David Walter Powell who died about 1834.
He married a Margaret Powell and at least the first 2 of their 4 children were born (about 1800 - 1818)
when they were living there, but I can't find any church record. Children were Margaret ,Elizabeth ,Anne(1805) and Gwenllian (1818)

This is an old problem of mine.If I just knew where I could access the records I might be able to find some answers!

I last looked at the Thomas Powell=Ann family with 4 commemorations at Zoar Pentrefilin in 1997 for an Alun Powell of Criccieth-your only way forward with this family is by getting a birth certificate for one of the issue William, Ann or Mary & then the marr. cert. for Thomas Powell(died Turkey?) and Ann.  It possible that Ann is from Llywel and that Thomas is a Glamorgan lad. I cannot find them in the censuses, other than their issue.
The adjacent box tomb-Powell & Morgan might have no conection at all

Anwyl Rebel,
I , with some cousins, surveyed over 50 graveyards in S.W.Brecs over a period of 10 years(1985-1995).  This project includes Zoar Pentrefelin & Defynog P.Ch which has your, socially prestigous family, of David Walter Powell.  We have this latter family reconstructed from the M.Is and the Defynog P.Register entries.

hallo Garfydd,

thankyou for your response, and well done for the work you must have put in on your graveyard project.

I'm quite delighted to hear that my David Walter Powell is actually recorded somewhere and not just a figment of my imagination! I managed to find quite a few references to him on the ISYS llgc. site...including the "New Hall" bit which was given as his address. He was the nephew of Walter Powell, a Brecon attorney.

Is there any way you can pass on the Powell information to me...if you are willing ,of course.

If it's easier I can send you a Personal Message with my email address.

look forward to hearing from you
Rebel
