Have a Helen Rutherford,( b. 24 Aug 1824 in Crailing, d. 16 Dec 1891) in my wife's tree.  She married Christopher Lang (b. 06 Aug 1825 in Sprouston,  d. 02 Sep 1900).  They lived in Sprouston most of their lives.  Would you have any information on her and her family?

Right at first look I have three Helens, one born in 1850 in Bonchester Bridge
one 1869 in Australia
one 1844 who died 1816 in the USA

died 16/12/1891 in Sprouston age 65
Father Andrew Rutherford , shepherd
Mother Agnes Sibbald
cause of death influenza and bronchial pnuemonia
witness George Lang, son.

she had several brothers and sisters

Joan Rutherford born 07 June 1812 , Crailing died 16 july 1832
William Rutherford born 17 October 1814, Crailing died 16 December 1832
John Rutherford born 17 May 1818, Crailing
James Rutherford born 07 March 1821 , Crailing died 21 Feb 1832.
Thomas Rutherford born 07 October 1827 , Crailing.
There is also a Helen Laidlaw Rutherford born born 27 June 1825 , Crailing . She may have died young and Helen/Ellen may be named after her.

Her father Andrew was born 02 Feb. 1785 in Sprouston and died 19th Jan. 1855 in Maxton.
Her mother Agnes was born 28th August 1788 Melrose and died 14th March 1870 in Maxton.

I have a line of descent from her uncle John Rutherford.

Thanks for this. Did Andrew and Agnes have two children - one Helen Laidlaw born in 1825 (I note that I have a date of Aug 6, 1825 and you have a date of June 27 - my source came from a family tree on ancestry.com that I can't corroborate) and one Helen/Ellen born 1826 who married Christopher Lang? Or is it possible that these are the same person?

Have doubled checked the records and I think the 2 Helens are one and the same and the birth date 24th August 1825 is the correct one.
I will do more research in order to corroborate this.
There are also some earlier births Agnes R. born 12th August 1810. She must have died young because there is a second Agnes born on the 11th October 1818, both in Crailing.
