"AP" born Falkirk 7th March 1821 WHo is theis person?
« on: Tuesday 27 January 09 01:09 GMT (UK) »
The Geelong Family History group in Victoria Australiahas photos of a stained glass window the details of which are copied here.

"Stained Glass Window - located in storage on the Bellarine Peninsula or near by.

Centre piece :

Born at Falkirk Scotland March 7th 1821
A P
1852
Left England October 4th 1847

Is it AP or AF?
Is 1852 year of death?
If this is a memorial window, who is A P / A F?"

Any help in finding out who this person is would be appreciated.

Web site where the photos can be viewed is:

Hi Robyn  :D

Wow, what a great mystery!!!

I'd say it's "AP".  The roundels in the corners give another monogram, "WM".  My guess is the date 1852 is the date of dedication of the window...the text is quite specific about the birthdate and place, so I would have expected a death date to be as specific as that.

Just done a quick "google" and came across an earlier request for info about this window:

Hi,

Yes that is from the webmaster of the site with the photos. As I have had much success on Rootschat I thought that some one in Falkirk or in Stirlingshire may recognise the birth date as it is quite specific, especially when put with the initials.

I agree that 1852 is probably when the windows were dedicated but it seems that which church they were commisssioned for is not known. This of course may have helped solve the mystery as the dedication etc may have been recorded in the papers and I am sure that Suzie Zada, who has indexed the newspapers for the area, would have picked up on the names and dates.

Could the "WM" represent Wesleyan Methodist or is 1852 too early for this terminology?

I hope that others may pick up on this and have some other ideas also.

mythanks for your interest.

Hi Robyn

I had a look at the IGI btach for Falkirk but unfortunately they only had christening dates and not birth dates.

As AP was born in Scotland its possible, if its a female, that it's her maiden initials and not married ones and wondered if when looking at possible candidates this was considered.

Andy,

Yes, Its certainly worth considering and personally I have researched all the Victorian and NSW immigration arrivals for 1847 and 1848  both male and female with initials "AP" "AF" "AR"  "AT"  with out finding a possibility, given that we have an age range to work with +/- 2 years.

I am sure that other researching this have looked at this as well.

We will keep looking but all avenues need to be used!!! Rootschat is such a good tool that it woul dbe remiss not to use it.
