Looks like Beevin - 'n' as in (eg) 'own' on the third line of this extract.

Thanks again Galium and Ian

Its not a name I've come across in co Limerick before and I've just been spending some time  to see if there are other mentions of the name elsewhere :-\

Either Henry wasn't sure how it was spelt or his handwriting wasn't very clear when it was transcibed into the will book!

I've also downloaded his wife's will  ;D ;D ;D now that is a poor copy! I feel a bit cheated as its very dark and unreadable in places.

Just in case you haven't got it this link has examples of the alphabet written in several different styles  (part way down the page)

James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Hi David  ;D

Thanks for the link

believe it or not I have a book for this kind of stuff, but I would like some other opinions on the names so that I don't go off on a tangent!

Looking round the area where they lived and the intermarrying that seemed to go in the English families in Limerick, I'm edging towards a poorly spelt Bevan.
The name appears locally and also in the trees of some closely linked families, though its the first time for this family that I've found.

thanks for helping everyone!

I have found the family in the right area of Limerick... just need to find out which son she married!

The name appears as Beevin from around 1650 till around 1729, which is the right time frame for Margaret to marry into this family
