Mary Woolcock
« on: Tuesday 17 February 09 12:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Mary Woolcock married my GGG Grandfather Peter Hughes in Holywell, Flintshire 1842

In the 1851 census they are living in Swansea and Mary's place of birth is Merthyr.

Can anyone help, please?

Alan

Hi Osprey

Mary 's husband was born about 1816 so I am guessing she was born around the same time.
On the 1851, 1861 and 1871 census she has 3 different years of birth 1817,1820 and 1821.
I would like to find her DOB if possible and her parents names
Where can I get this information is there an archive or something in Merthyr where they hold parish records?

if you check the Genuki page for Merthyr Tydfil, you'll find that the anglican parish registers are at the record office in Cardiff. Also, the Glamorgan Family History Soc has produced a transcript for the years up to civil registration

The problem with Merthyr is the sheer size - in 1841 the population was nearly 35000, so there's a lot of records to look through. There are no Woolcock baptisms on the IGI batch for the parish church which starts in 1820. The number of non-conformist deposited registers doesn't appear to be consistent with somewhere of that size, so  there would seem to be ones that aren't available.
