Hi Stan

Thank you for all your hard work, you're a star.  I'll have a look at the schools and streets you've added , the RC schools my Dad went too, Carr's Yard is where my Grandfather's address when he served in the Merchant Navy WW1 possibly a ship yard? , Mordey Street is where my Great Gran was living at the time of her marriage in 1880  and Aubrey Terrace is where my Great Great Gran died in 1876.

Thanks
Julie

Hi Julie
It is not a shipyard  :) In the 1881 Census there were nine families living in the four houses in Carr's Yard which was  between High Street East and Warren Street. I can't attach a map in "Lookup Requests" but if you want one send me a PM with you email address.

My Great Great Grandmother was born at 2 Oak Street Sunderland. I wonder if there is a connection. Her name was Hannah Mary Harper.

Hi Milly

My Great Gran Grace Sidney was orphaned and lived at 2 Oak Street with her Uncle Joseph in 1861, her Grandfather Joseph died at the same address the year after.  A lot of the old Sunderland buildings housed many families in one home so the chances are your Great Great Grandmother probably knew my Great Great Uncle and his family.

Hello Julie

I would be interested in your family who lived in 43 Spring Garden Lane as my family, the Leighton's, lived there according to the 1851 census.

Hi Fiona

The Jones family were originally from Ireland, not able to find anything about them before the 1851 Census in England, the only reference to Ireland is from their birthplaces in the census, my Great Great Gran Ellen Jones lived at No 43 in 1871 she lived at No 15 in 1861 and between 1861/71 Ellen and her brothers all lived on Spring Garden Lane, her sister Mary lived there too under her married name of Meehan/Meighan in 1861.

Stan, many thanks for your reply. I am very impressed at the apparent ease with which you  answer questions and other things you have bought peoples attention to, this  for  instance, I found  link=topic=194825.msg965575#msg965575 date=1162893763 a real eye opener that has rekindled my interest in finding out more about the Marsh's and the Dye's and any connection they may have with the sea

Clicking on the first link you provided in answer to my question seems to have  have given me reasons for a connection between the Marsh's and the Dye's.
