Angus Burial Records online
« on: Monday 02 March 09 20:19 GMT (UK) »
At WDYTYA I met the people from www.deceasedonline.co.uk.

As of 23rd Feb 2009, they say they have some 30,000 burial records from Angus available for search.

I have no connection with this website but I can confirm that I have found two family burials (STORMONTH in Forfar and FINDLAY in Kirriemuir) by searching on it.  It is a pay-per-view website.

This for information to RootsChat users especially with interest in Angus or Forfarshire burials and MIs.
NEILSON - Erskine/Bishopton, Renfrewshire and Glasgow
BROWN - Hamilton, Lanarkshire
CAIRNS - Hamilton, Lanarkshire
FINDLAY - Kirriemuir area, Forfarshire/Angus
PORTER - Tobermore, Derry, Ireland

Many thanks, greenrig, for sharing this long-awaited online link for searching the Angus Council burial records.  Did the people at WDYTYA know if the task has now been completed?.  I can't find any information at all on the Angus Council website.

Sorry Breaky, I don't know.

At the site is is possible to display the record sets available and the number of records for each supplier  (see "Participating Cemeteries and Crematoria").

When I first looked last Sunday it said "Angus 30000 names added".  Looking today it says "Angus 80000 names added" - and there are some additional London boroughs added since last week.

I have no connection with the website but it looks like updates are still going on-- I would advise Rootschatters to wait a while until the datasets are complete.

Someone  may wish to contact deceasedonline and ask......

Doug.

This is quite an important bit from the site:

Quote
Scope of the data - Arbroath Eastern Cemetery [CURRENTLY UPLOADING]

Around 15,200 Burials dated 25 December 1894 to 16 October 2003, are available as Burial register scans. Maps are in preparation.

Scope of the data - Arbroath Western Cemetery [CURRENTLY UPLOADING]

Around 24,800 Burials dated 31 October 1867 to 27 December 2003, are available as Burial register scans. Maps are in preparation.

Scope of the data - Kirriemuir Cemetery

Around 13,200 Burials dated 30 March 1858 to 17 January 2008, are available as Burial register scans. Maps are available for about half the records, and are in preparation for the remainder. The records include burials in the Kirriemuir Cemetery Extension.

Scope of the data - Newmonthill Cemetery

Around 26,900 Burials dated 14 May 1850 to 30 August 1985, are available as Burial register scans. Maps are also provided. The most recent register covering a further 1,800 Burials up to 9 July 2003 is in preparation, and will be uploaded very shortly.

So essentially it's only four cemeteries so far, but here's hoping they add more.

Thanks Ostler - I had missed that information , possibly it was added sometime this week.  Also, from the same page is this statement about additional Angus records:

Quote

"Angus Council

Neighbourhood Services, Direct Services - Parks & Cemeteries, Angus Council, Ravenswood, New Road, Forfar, DD8 2ZX.

Approximately 200,000 burial register records are being made available online, with a mixture of register scans and computerised records. Maps showing the exact locations of graves and where available digital photographs of headstones will also be provided. Initially approximately 80,000 records have been placed online from Arbroath East, Arbroath West, Kirriemuir, and Newmonthill cemeteries. Burials records for the remaining 80 or so cemeteries and associated maps are being added rapidly to the database. "

I've been waiting on this for nearly two years! It's been mentioned in a previous thread http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,622.0.html the records are all scanned and there was a delay in getting the payment system in place.

However I know a man who knows a man....  ;) and he says the councils own pay-per-view website it now ready, they're running final tests on it and it will be launched shortly. Hurrah!

This is to greenrig:

I'm new to this board and just happened to stumble on both it and your posting about deceased on line.  I am interested in your Stormonths in Forfar as I have some as well.

BTW I've used deceased on line quite a bit for Angus, even without paying you can get a lot of useful information
