Hi Sue
Wow  ;D  ;D How cool is this!! Isn't Rootschat THE place to be and be seen!

Not only a cousin in your mum, but your mum's brother was named after 'our' Sidney. Gee, I'm delighted , so I bet Marc will be double that with chips!

Cheers

Hi again
Just thinking - if Sidney's widow remarried - there are a couple of marriage who might be considered possibles. Maybe names might ring a bell with your Mum  ;D

Searched Wallsall 1917-1927 - 1 result:
Elizabeth WILKINSON and George E  BEECH - Jun Qtr 1924

Searched all Staffs 1917-1927 - 2 further results
Elizabeth WILKINSON and John COX - Dec Qtr 1924 Stourbridge
Elizabeth A WILKINSON and Edwin MORTON - Dec Qtr 1926 Burton

Searched Leeds 1917-1927
Elizabeth WILKINSON and Michael KENNY - Dec Qtr 1918
Elizabeth _ WILKINSOn and James SHANNON Dec Qtr 1918

Too many to poke a stick at in wider WRY Yorkshire, though!

Cheers

PS: The tree which was missing Sidney off it:  I agree that's a very possible reason and I don't think the list of children had any of their middle names listed either - I did at first think, the names and birth-years appeared to be taken from Census records, but then, Sidney was there in 1901 so would have thought he'd be included if that were the case. :-\

Hi,

Yes Sidney is one of mine. He was my Mum's cousin.
Mum's mother was Sarah Wilkinson who married in 1905 and had five children with my mum on the way when her husband was killed in 1916.

ENOCH BAUGH - Regiment King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, Unit Text: 1st/5th Bn, killed Age 28, Date of Death 08/07/1916.

She remarried in 1919 and called her first child Sidney

Will just read through all these posts again,

Regards
Sue

Sue,  I have seen Sidney on both the 1901 & 1911 census and with the help from a chap on a military forum (Graheme)  I got the background on Sidney.  What i haven't seen any mention of is Sidney's daughter born i believe in 1914 / 1915? Do you know anything of her?

All
I just wanted to clarify my interest in Sidney - I have no family interest or connection!  I really just want to return the WWI service medal that my wife's grandfather had in his possession.  I would like it to go to as close a connection as poss to him (his daughters bloodline?) if poss.  I have contacted a few people on GRU who have sid in their tree.

Also , i am keen to know how the medal ended up in Luton in the 1950's?

Hi Marc,

I have already seen the daughters birth on FreeBMD, but no, I have never heard of her in connection with my family and obviously there is a family out there with much closer links than me. I think it likely that Elizabeth remarried but unfortunately there are a lot of Elizabeth Wilkinsons and unless you know when and especially, where, you would be unlikely to come across the marriage unless the record also mentions her maiden name. It would be a similar situation with the daughter who may not have retained her father's name if her mum remarried.

There is someone on GenesReunited with Sidney, Elizabeth and daughter plus other older members of the Wilkinson clan, have you followed it up?

Good Luck with the search, I will keep my eyes open for any connection especially as I am visiting Walsall in May.

I've corrected my error regarding his wife's maiden name, sorry folks.

Yes good luck Marc, in your continued search.  Hopefully some of the ideas we've suggested might help.
Maybe you have already looked into it - but perhaps researching Elizabeth SARGENT's family and trying to get to descendants of her own siblings, if she had any that is.

Cheers
