The 7 yr old is Mary Jane, not Margaret, but seeing as there is an older sisiter called Mary I wonder if it is supposed to be Marg.

Ah, that looks very promising.  I don't have the 1851 (only got Find My Past).  Looks like it might be a go'er though.

I'll see if I can find them in 1841.


If their address really was 'cellar' I'm not surprised they decided that NZ offered a better option.  I've read some terrible stories about poverty in Manchester in the 19th century.

I wonder if Joseph was dead by then.  I know that james and Mary Ellen were alive because they signed the register at the marriage in Nov 1861.

I can't find them either..  There are a couple of possibles but not born in Ireland.

freeBMD gives the death of a Joseph Pritchard in 3rd q. 1858, Manchester 8d 178 
Edit: deleted, because it now seems Joseph was still alive in 1861
