From the London Gazette, I think he's Claud Ellery Williams. He may have been born around 1903, according to online family trees, which makes him a better possible husband for Marguerite Irene Goodwin b. 1907ish, even if I can't spot the marriage.

Marguerite Irene Williams was living at 10 Box Ridge Avenue Purley Surrey when the probate was drawn up on the 15.6.1967

That address was the home of C. Ellery Williams per the phone books

C. Ellery Williams was listed at this address in the phone book for 1981, but had disappeared by the 1982 edition. Coincidentally or not, an E. Williams was listed as living up the road at 30 Box Ridge Avenue in the 1970s and early 1980s.

Agreed - I can't find many other traces of him though apart from the phone books. I can't see him in the 1911 census, and can't find his birth in the GRO index.

His parents are apparently Claud Williams and Caroline Ellery Cornish-Bowden. There appears to be a Scottish link. Perhaps our OP should be looking at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

Hi All,
Just to put you in the picture. Firstly have ordered the birth cert of Marguerite Goodwin 1907. I have just gone through deaths and found Claude Ellery Williams DOB 20.3.1907 MARCH 1/4 SURREY SE 17 1023 1982. Must admit glad I'm not researching Williams Smiths and Browns. I am going to spend a little while seeing if I can find a marriage for him from 1928 onwards. Will keep you informed if I do not fall asleep!!

John

Goodness me - I looked for that death in 1982 and didn't see it. In fact I still can't see it in the GRO index for 1Q or 2Q 1982. Where is it exactly?

The birth  is 4 years later than other sources suggest. Surely he's not the Claude Williams born in Pontypool in 1Q 1907? The other day I found the marriage of a Claude Williams to a Goodwin in Pontypool circa 1931 but it wasn't a Margaret Irene.

Hi,
You got me worried for a minuet. He does appear in the gro index 1st q 1982 with 2 other Claudes. As for the marriage c1930 do you have exact ref.
