The Yelding Family
« on: Tuesday 07 April 09 22:48 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone

I'am hoping someone out there can help me, i'am looking for information on the Yelding family.
My gt grandfathers name was John Yelding he was married to Priscilla Lee, they married in 1900 surname spelt wrong (Yealding).
Yohn Yelding was born about 1864 in ramsgate this information came from the 1911 cencus, but that is all I know so far, I would like to know who he's parents were and if he had any brothers and sisters any information would be a help thank you  . :)

Hi

This is a possibility for him but you really need a copy of his marriage cert to confirm his fathers name

1891 census for Ringmer Sussex - address is just "Camp and no relationship is shown between the Yeldings.  They are all shown as single

William Yelding 55  traveller b Dover
John Yelding 28  b Dover
Thomas Yelding 25  b Dover
James Yelding 21  b Chatham
Henry Yelding 17  b Chatham

Hello, I think CaroleW's advice is right ........... get a copy of his marriage certificate and confirm his father's name.

If he is a circus Yelding, then I can give you the entries from John Turner's books.
John Yelding Jnr was the son of John Yelding (d.9 July 1892) and Laura Julian (daughter of John Julian of Julian's circus, she died 1918)

This John jnr had 9 children and a fine line of circus performers they all were. What is your Grandfather's name?

very best

Jim

Hi

I have looked at his marrage cert it looks like his fathers name was Mark Yelding rank or profession of father is listed as a hawker.
I do not think that they were circus gypsies but I can't be sure.
My gt grandfathers name was John Yelding born about 1864 died in 1928 aged 68 at swanley junction.

I'm pretty sure this is John & Priscilla in 1891 (to save others looking) http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,353148.msg2417893.html#msg2417893

There is a possible baptism in the parish registers for Hastingleigh, Kent ie. John Eldon (Hilden?) BAKER son of Mark & Jemima see http://www.hastingleigh.com/hast-parish-baptism-part2.html - also a sister Rose baptised 1861
