I'm stuck!
« on: Saturday 19 February 05 14:47 GMT (UK) »
I've come up against a brick wall with a certain Ernest Parry and would welcome suggestions.  I know from censuses that he was born in Manchester c. 1826, and was a dyer.  He "married" Elizabeth Roberts but I can't find a marriage record.  Their daughter was Martha Ann.  Elizabeth died in 1873 and Martha went to an aunt and uncle.  Ernest is on the 1881 census as a lodger.  I can't find a record of his death.  So what now?  One step would be the 1861 census, but I can't get a look-up of that.  Bearing in mind that I live nowhere near Manchester, are there any other avenues I can pursue?

It's called a senior moment!  Thanks for that.  I admit I didn't look for a marriage under Perry - expensive enough trawling for Parrys.  Thanks again.

Me again.  Sylviaann, the only access I have to the IGI is via Familysearch, and I can't find him on there - maybe I'm missing something.  Can you give me the details, please?

Sutton,

Done a little digging.  As he wasn't on the 1891 census ( unless he has been mistranscribed) I checked FreeBMD there is an Ernest dying in 1889 who although the age is wrong may be him.  This one died in Prestwich which isn't if my geography is anything to go by to far from Manchester

Thanks, Rob, I'd found that one but the age is a good bit out.  Could well be a mistranscription.

Or the fact that whoever registered the death didn't know his age or that the census information is wrong.  Don't discount something just because the age doesn't match.  I could throw lots of examples but I don't think it really matters
