I am tearing my hair out here! The IGI seems to be down, and at times Rootschat is so slow that it's not worth the frustration. Yes, I know, it's all down to those bots taking over the server!

Half an answer then.

Judith Childs was buried on 5 Feb 1843 age 39. The first Childs burial in Dean (a single parish split into Upper and Nether Dean) was in 1821, a child Sarah aged 1, who was also the first Childs baptism in Dean, in 1820, the daughter of John and Elizabeth, who married in Dean in 1819. The first Childs entry in Dean parish register was the marriage of William Childs and Elizabeth Bell in 1815 - I can't tell if it was this William who married Judith Setchell in 1825, but if it was I can't find a burial of Elizabeth.

Which doesn't help at all in finding a baptism for William born c1810

Until you can find out who your William's parents were it's impossible to work out if he was related to the other Williams. But William the husband of Judith and John who was also in Dean, were both born at Milton, Beds. Is that Milton Ernest (probably as there were Childs in the village) or Milton Bryant?

Not sure what that will throw up, as virtually all of Beds baptisms pre 1812 are on the IGI, and Dean baptisms up to 1875, and marriages up to 1885, have been extracted onto the IGI. But what exactly will you be looking for and in which parish?

The library has the transcriptions up to 1812, but you need the Records Office which is a separate building for post 1812 microfiches. There's no charge at either.

All very strange! Was William who married Judith Setchell a widower? ie husband of Elizabeth Bell. If so where was Elizabeth Childs buried as I can't see it? And did they have any children as there are no baptisms. If he wasn't a widower what happened to William and Elizabeth?

And your William and Louisa had plenty of kids, yet I can't see baptisms for any of them. Were they non-conformist?

This is not Child's play!!!

David

PS The William Childs born 1778 that ricky found is an Ancestry error. His age was 43, not 63 as transcribed, and he was the husband of Judith.
