I can read the first line ok but not the second line -
"and of Mary uxor?"

I thought bridge but would have expected a capital B.

i think bridge is correct,,comparing the e and r with others ,you can see a suggestion of a dot above the i .

Looks like Bridge to me; I think uxor means wife.

Thanks for your replies.
First of all yes uxor means wife and most of the entries for this parish have uxor.
The strange thing is a popular CD of transcriptions show this as Mary Uredge! but I really cant see it.

Are there any other capital Bs on the page? I can see the "r?dge' but I'm finding the B a bit difficult to decipher.

I notice on the IGI there's a baptism of a SAMUEL ROFE (10 JUN 1774   Cranbrook, Kent, England) whose parents were William Rofe and Mary Bridgland. Coincidence?

I think it might be Bredge. I found this reference to a Bredge family in Felsted, Essex, on Google.

Thanks for your ideas.

Lesley it is the same parish, Cranbrook but 1661.
All other B's on the page are clear and conventional but with a little flourish.
Also on later entries ending in uxor the u looks similar to the first letter of the name after Mary.
Thanks Roger I will add Bredge to the list of alternatives.

In this parish there are various baptisms through the years with last names of Bridge, Bridges, Bridgland as well as Uredge.

Hi Linda,

It looks like Uredge to me (although I've never heard of the name before). I've recently been transcribing wills from the same period and that first letter is almost certainly a "U".

Have you seen these records on the IGI?
