Cranmer Hall Records
« on: Sunday 07 June 09 10:55 BST (UK) »
I am trying to track down staff/ household records for Cranmer Hall nr Burnham Market - I have tried the current owners/ agents (part of it is used as holiday accomodation) but they have nothing. Can anyone suggest if/ where the records may be. My gt gt grandfather was an underfootman there at the time of Sir Willoughby Jones, 3rd Baronet in the 1860s and I would love to have sight of any records.

Thanks.Trish

Hi Trish and welcome to rootschat.
Ask the Library closest to Cranmer Hall what they can tell you about this and how to track things down. I've always found the librarians very helpful.

A search in the NOAH database http://www.noah.norfolk.gov.uk/QSearch.aspx for Cranmer hall returns a few things - including a photo of the Hall which probably dates from the mid C19th.

Hi Trish
I have only just found this site and have logged on as a new member. In years gone by my family were is service at Cranmer Hall. My Great Grandfather Mr William Samuel Woodhouse started work in the saw mill and through hard work over the years worked his way up to becoming Estate Manager.

There is a great book written by Gary Windler called The Book of Sculthorpe, published by Halsgrove. It has been on sale in many book shops including Fakenham and Norwich. I contributed many of the photographs.

Hope you find what you are looking for

Regards
Richard9

@ Richard - I am also a descendent of the Woodhouse family and I'm guessing that you are Jack and Nellie's son. I just discovered this post when I was researching Cranmer Hall myself. Would you be able to send me a message here so that we can get in touch? (I'm Audrey's daughter. I'm sure you'll remember her.)
