James Hughes & John Sergeant (Serjeant?) - Completed
« on: Thursday 11 June 09 12:27 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm trying to trace my half sister's "other side" for her. I'm stuck with a couple of lines.

James Hughes is shown in the 1861 census (RG9/1824), in Michaelchurch, aged 44 (so born c.1817), with his wife Ellen & sons James & Samuel aged 13, (my sister's direct ancestor).  I'd like any earlier records of them if possible.

John Sergeant, I have in 1871 (RG10/2702) in Ewyas Harold, aged 67 (c. 1804), with wife Mary & daughter Emma, aged 21, (the other ancestor).  Again any earlier records would be appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation.

James Hughes - one of brides on page Eleanor Nash

Oct/Nov/Dec 1841

A submitted record on the IGI suggests that it was Eleanor Watkins who was the mother of James and Samuel - but obviously a birth cert would be the way to prove that.

Thanks for the information. The rootschat team come up trumps again!
I'll trawl the registers for young Samuel's birth record & get the certificate.
At least, like "my" side of the family, they pretty much all stayed in one place in the 19th century.

Thanks again.  I won't mark this complete for the moment as I'm still hopeful on the Sergeants.

Think you are right Michael, and that it is Clodock.

The Sargeants are here in 1861: RG9; Piece: 1823; Folio: 28; Page: 12
and in 1851 (transcribed by ancestry as Targeant): HO107; Piece: 1978; Folio: 605; Page: 12
