So sorry to hear that Elvira placed Valerie in an orphanage but luckily her grandparents were willing to help her.  I only know that on Elvira's birth record Maria put her name and stated she was the 'daughter of a landed proprietor'!  Was Maria born in Edinburgh as well?
I think Venancio eventually became a Doctor/Consultant and married and had a son.

Not sure where Maria was born, will check for you.

Valerie is Elvira's first child - I'm one of Valerie's daughters.  Are you connected to Venancio or to Maria?  Valerie writes to her half-sister in Norway  Phyllis, so we've always known of our Norwegian relatives and they of us.

We know also that Elvira went first to Australia before Valerie was one year old -  she had Norman who stayed in Australia (is this your connection - although he knew of Valerie) before settling in Norway.

Elvira did visit Valerie in later years.  She also apparantly went to Spain to try to track down Venancio, although she would have done better to try Venezuela!

We were always told that Venancio was a specialist in tropical diseases and died in the jungle - very romantic

My mother was Elizabeth - Elvira's fourth child - Phyllis' sister although news of you never got to our ears.  Most of the info. we have has also been from Phyllis including the romantic story of Venancio.  What a small world!

Greetings half-cousin!  Are you also in Norway?  I've always thought this story was worthy of a book, it has such a complicated plot.  We are a huge family - mum, Valerie had 8 children and we all have our own children.  Elvira always sounded like a very entreprenurial woman and most of us also run our own businesses.

I'm amazed you didn't know of us already, but it just shows that things get lost through generations - talk to Phyllis - she knows about us - mum was also known as Betty when she was little and perhaps that's what she calls her.

I would love to find out where Venancio is from - if you discover anything, let me know - have a happy new year.

Best wishes - April, (Valeries 7th)

Just spoken to mum (Valerie) and realise that your  mother must also have been known as Betty - sorry - I think mum's knick name was from her London family - not Elvira.

Best wishes
