Rev. Henry Gamble of Lurgan
« on: Thursday 16 July 09 15:47 BST (UK) »
Reverend Henry Gamble - b. ? - 1802 ( i believe). He is described as Rev.Gamble of Lurgan.

i am trying to find any other info about this man besides that he married Anne Cutcliffe in 1792. his son was born in Shankill in 1793.

i would like to know who his parents were, was he Irish or English ?, can i get a marriage record from the info in the Irish marriage Index ?

i know nothing about finding Irish ancestors  :-[

Thank you for any help at all

It doesn't look like Rev. Henry Gamble was Presbyterian- his name isn't listed under either 1st or 2nd Lurgan and he's not in the index to History of Congregations.
Civil registration of Protestant marriages in Ireland started in 1845 so for earlier records you need to check the individual church to see if the records go back to such an early period.

Thank you for your reply.... interesting that he was not presbyterian.....his son became an Anglican Reverend.

I found the marriage listed on page 110 Irish Marriages 1771-1812 -
august - Anne Cunliffe(should be CUTCLIFFE) Rev. henry gamble. Is it possible to get a copy of it ?.

If his son became an Anglican minister there's a very good chance that he was Church of Ireland.
Am not familiar with the source of the marriage that you mentioned- is a church not listed?

hello, thank you for your interest, i saw this reference some time ago but caroline Gamble died in 1861 and Rev. henry gamble died in 1867 both in Derbyshire.

rev. henry Gamble snr. died in 1802 so i am confused  ::)...if indeed it relates to my family.

the Gamble info is not my site but as you can see , part of my family tree.

thanks for the web address.

the other gamble who was Rev. Henry Reginald Gamble became Dean of Exeter cathedral in very early 1900's, so they seemed to be Anglicans.

i found marriage index  on Ancestry and there are no churches listed... i suppose it's possible/probable that they married at the parish church in lurgan as Anne was fron Devon.

Hi,

I will take photos hopefully over the next week (hopefully wether will remain kind :)    .   There is a copy of a will made by Henry senior who died 1802. Perhaps someone could do a look up for you if they are visiting the national archives  in dublin or perhaps you could order a copy through their website.
