I can't believe how quickly you replied - thank you so much!
Yes - that's right - I have Arthur and Ruby's son Douglas Charles's birth cert. He was born in **** in Lambert - though I have thought that they were Reading people. He had 2 older brothers.... the oldest being Arthur and the other Cyril.
Douglas married Susie Gallagher in St Giles Church, Reading in ****.
Arthur Henry was a stud groom of Shinfield Lodge, Reading on Douglas's birth cert. I always imagined this was on a big estate where they bred horses - though I don't know!
Maybe Arthur was a family name going back generations especially since Arthur Henry called his first son Arthur too.
If this Arthur b. 1885 Micheldever is a Arthur Henry then yes - it would be great if you could add even more to the scant info I have!!!
Hi - I think I have the right man; in the 1911 census his Year of Birth is 1885 ! Also 2 sons - I didnt copy all the info from the 1911 Index-only search, but one son was a Cyril, and Ruby had her full name specified. So that would deffo be the family - in the Wokingham District (not sure how far towards Reading etc that spanned in those days)
To get full details of his address and occupation you would have to buy credits on the 1911 website.
Theres a Birth Index entry for ARTHUR HENRY in the 4Q of 1884, Winchester District, so that agrees with the PoB of Micheldever that he stated in the 1901 census.
Harder to find in 1891 as the surname was transcribed FARMES by the search engine (clearly Farmer on the handwritten original) !
and his Family were already in the Shinfield area ..... he now says his PoB was Northbrook, and looking at a map, thats actually part of Micheldever.
Heres the 1891 family :-
1891 - RG12/1000; Folio 60; Page 9 - Parish of Shinfield, (Town of Reading ? )
'Three Mile Cross' - next to the Swan Inn Henry Farmer 44 Head Agricultural Labourer born Hants, possibly Selbourne (badly smudged)
Ann Farmer 28 Wife possibly Selbourne
Arthur Farmer 6 son Hants NorthBrook (Micheldever)
Matillda Farmer 4 dau ditto
Lousia Farmer 2 dau ditto
Thomas Ballard 36 Lodger
Alfred Marshall 25 Lodger
couldnt find an obvious Marriage .... see next post.
If you use a 'search engine' like GOOGLE and look for Shinfield House, theres a reference to the Estate being sold in 1904 - I didnt read the whole article, so dont know what happened to it after that when Arthur would have been around.
Let me know if you want to try and trace his Dad Henry back ?
Kind Regards, PM
