Findlay - Benholm
« on: Tuesday 04 August 09 16:02 BST (UK) »
I understand that deaths after 1860 will not be recorded in the Benholm Churchyard but if anyone is researching families in the Benholm area I am interested in finding out what happened to two of my grandfather's brothers.

George Findlay b. 1889 Fetteresso was a farmer at Upper Birnie, Benholm. He married Margaret Milne (1896-1979) but I cannot find a death or children for him. Family story is he died of 'Pipe Cancer'

James Findlay b 1883 Fetteresso d 1940 Threshing Mill Owner, Burn House, Benholm.  He married Mary Cameron Walker (1897-1982).

My ideal outcome would be to find someone who has photographs of these two great uncles. A bit much to hope but I have been doing well on this front lately - so why not try?

Findlay - Fetteresso, Cookney, Kincardineshire
Allan - Foveran, Aberdeenshire
Wood - Aberdeen, Auchnagatt
Ferguson - Auchnagatt
Knight - Stonehaven
McIntyre - Mid Calder, Edinburgh

Thank you for looking for me - I suppose it is quite likely that he died in the same place as his wife.  Failing all else I will send for the death certificate.

This is a very expensive hobby - I dread to think what I have spent over the last few months.

Thanks again

Carol

I've seen similar comments in other threads.
I hope I'm wrong but I'm beginning to think that some of my new found fellow 'chatterers' are confusing the Scottish system with the English one where you MUST send for certificates before you can see the content.
With Scotlandspeople you can download a post 1854 certificate for 5 credits (that's just a quid a punt).  With the pre-1854 OPR pages you can get the full data, names & dates, by downloading the search report page and that is just 1 credit (20p a punt).  If you really want the scan of the page that would be 5 credits but for most purposes that is NOT necessary.

Cheers
