Morgan family from Swansea
« on: Monday 03 May 04 22:41 BST (UK) »
I am researching the family of William A. Morgan(birthdate between 1810 and 1814 and died in 1889) and Mary Prosser (birthdate beetween 1816 and 1820 and died May 8, 1991) who moved from Swansea to the state of Colorado in the United States around 1850.

It is believed that Mary was the second wife of William with the first wife possibly being named Ann who died August 24, 1841.

Samuel Morgan and his wife Margaret (last name unknown.  Possible dates for birth and death are  1807-1891) also originated in Swansea and moved to Colorado.  Samuel and Margaret had several children three of which are Samuel, David(1850-1935) and Margaret (1852-1923).

Jospeh Morgan, the son of William and Mary Prosser-Morgan married Margret Morgan who was the daughter of Samuel and Margaret Morgan.  Joseph and Margret Morgan are my g-g-grandparents.

I am looking for anyone who would have information on either of these families prior to their moving to the United States around 1850.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Kelli

Jen,

Thank you so much for the information.  I believe that perhaps the second entry might be the correct family.  However, I have that they had a son named Edward who was born in 1839 and he wan't mentioned in this census.

The first family has the correct names of many of the children, but their birthdates are off by many years.

Thanks again for your assistance,

Kelli

I searched again in the 1841 for Edward Morgan c.1839.
There were 10 matches. None listed living in Swansea, 2 were listed living in nearby Gower, but the parents names do not match.

I also searched for Edward in the 1851 Census and there were no matches in the Swansea region.

I found this entry in 1851:

2466 1851 CENSUS OF SWANSEA. REF.H.O.107/2466, E.D.6.

I could not see any other match to the combination of names given.
