Littleport baptisms ARE included in Cambs FHS Baptism Index 1801-37. Just put in Smith Littleport to see that there are plenty of entries in the years around 1818.

Don't confuse a baptism index with births. Pre 1837 there was no birth registration. So it's possible that he was born in Littleport but not baptised in the established church, for whatever reason.

Do you have the 1837 marriage cert? If not it sounds as though you need it

Hi again, It looks as I will need the Marriage certificate for Isaac and Mary to determine  Isaac's father. For on checking the Cambridgeshire registers the Isaac and Susanna parents have just three children on the Cambs Birth Index for Benton and they are are all listed on the 1841 census. Unless someone has the Littleport church registers to look up in 1837 which could show the father of Isaac. It seems strange that there is no reference to another Isaac birth about 1820 on the registers, but the fact that Mark Benton has an Isaac on the census shows that I need to cover another line of investigation to find the birth father of this Isaac

Still will sort out in the near future

Many thanks to all of you for the help and advice

Are these Bentons related to the Mark Benton who was deported to Australia after the Littleport riots? He was 60 in 1816.

Hi,  I know this post is old but thought I'd try anyway.  I've reached the same point with Isaac Benton of ~1817 in Littleport and found a Baptism record dating the birth as 1817 but the baptism date as 1871 (thinking a possible typo) that lists the father as Isaac and Susan.  Plus the 1841 census records with Isaac Sn and Isaac Jnr living just down the road.  Do you have any further information to confirm Isaac and Susan as the parents of Isaac (1817) and if he is the father any information on Isaac senior?

Thanks for the help!

Hi,

Sorry for late reply been on Holiday

Thanks for your note, I'm still on the list but I have not followed up things from the thread, I really should have the marriage certificate to determine the parents of 1837.

The Littleport Registers have been searched  but are inconclusive I'm told, so may be coming up against a brick wall. Possibly in another Church although  church registers as listed and copied  are not too clear, Maybe too many Benton's to follow, certainly later in the late 1800's there were some large families.

Regards

Roy
