You may be able to help me here :-)

As I understand it there were a number of women volunteers in the City Hall when the British troops stormed it. I have done quite a bit of research on the City Hall in the days 24.25 April 1916 but really cannot decide what the "truth" really is.

Even the rebel literature seems equivocal ablut the role of women here.

My uncle Captain Sean Connolly from the ICA was in charge of the City hall Garrison in 1916.  I can give you the names of some women who were in the  the unit. Dr. Kathleen Lynn, Helena Molony, Katie Barrett (nee Connolly) Seans sister. and two Norwood sisters Annie and Emily.

Hello Shiraz,

My grandfather, Joseph Connolly, was Sean's brother. He was located in a different area than Sean and the other Connolly family members at the GPO. Weren't some of his other sisters also involved in the Uprising? Unfortunately, I do not have too much information because my mother (Monica) and her siblings (Vera, Joe, and Mary) are all passed away and I never thought to ask them while they were living.

Any information you could give me regarding the Connollys (related to Sean not James) would be great.

Thanks,

PS I am VERY new to the site, so I am not sure if this is correct. My apologies if it is not.

I am a first cousin of your mother Monica.  I'm currently writing a book on the family which has a lot to say about Joe.  Please let me have your e-mail address and I will communicate with you directly.    ;) shiraz

Welcome to Rootschat, Jaxmom. You need to have 3 posts before you can use PM (personal message) system to exchange email addresses (which mustn't be posted on the boards).

Aghadowey

Can you pass on my e-mail address to jaxmom as I'm sure she is my cousins daughter and I think I have had enough postings.

Thanks

Sorry but I have no way of passing on information except by PM so Jaxmom needs to make another few posts.

Shiraz,

My mother and her two sisters all came to the United States in the late 1950s and early 1960s. My Uncle Joe never lived in the United States. My grandfather passed away before my mother left Ireland.

I am not sure how the personal message works, but I am trying to get three posts. :D
