Hi,

His record on the CWGC site show him to be Canadian, serving in the Canadian Machine Gun Corps.

Perhaps a search in Canadian records might yield some information.    ???

Hi

The database for Canadian soldiers who served in the First World War is here

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/001042-100.01-e.php

John Edgar is on it. Canadian soldiers' records are very detailed. The online record will only show the first and last pages of his records only.

His widow remarried in 1924 in Marylebone registration district.

1901 census RG13 1235 folio 141
5 Stanford Villas Friern Barnet Middlesex
Friend Jos Hetherington 38 Head Married Managing Director of ? Ashford Kent
Ada C Hetherington 42 Wife Married Launceston Cornwall
Edward F Hetherington 14 Son London
John E Hetherington 12 Son London
Ada F Hetherington 11 Daughter London
George Hetherington 8 Son London
Edith K Hetherington 4 Daughter London
plus 1 servant

You can continue to track the family through the 1911 census

http://www.1911census.co.uk/

For copyright reasons you cannot ask for a look up from this census on Rootschat - you must search yourself.

You will be able to find the siblings birth registrations on FreeBMD

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

FreeBMD coverage charts are here so you can see just how far on the civil registration index has been transcribed

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/progress.shtml

to help track the siblings marriages, possible children and their parents's deaths into the 1930s

Friend' death registration is on FreeBMD

Deaths Dec 1935  Hetherington  Friend J  72  Barnet  3a 623

Since the family were of some social standing it would be worth seeing whether Friend left a will and what details that gives of his surviving family members.

Rootschat policy  because it is such a public forum is this

'Not to publish details of living people, or details of people who may still be living. This is to protect all concerned from spam, identity abuse, internet abuse, etc, etc.
If you have any information please use the Personal Message (PM) system to exchange personal data'

So checking websites like GenesReunited to see whether anyone else is researching this family might help find contacts of living descendants.
