Yes... U found the right fam...henry is my great grandad...grandad.... And ty so much for the offer of looking for me at Lichfield..ty, I appreciate it...and yes this probably will need me buying one of the birth certs...the fam is Griffith's for all of the generations after henry...(I'm on my tab right now so a lil slow)

Not sure what there is for me to look up at Lichfield - the majority of parish records are already available on FreeREG  ;D

otp = of this parish.  The image was on Ancestry, under Birmingham Marriages.  Henry signed, Sarah made her mark.

Ahh so henry could write then....so the name griffis is right and wasn't a misheard, spelling by whoever wrote it....wonder who changed the name later on to my Griffith's....

I wouldn't get too hung up on the spelling at that early date. As even if the person could write and was consistent in the spelling of their surname (not always so) if the clerk was writing up the entry they may well have got the name wrong.
My Family is Bourne and I have found entries for Bourn, Burn, Burne, and even Brown, which is not that surprising as due to my accent people I speak to on the phone often think I said "Brown"
