Denmark- WESTH Family History

Can anyone out there help me find a link or thread that will enable me to trace my roots in Denmark? My Great Great Grandfather was Lars Westh who married Ellen Christina Morton, date ?. The only issues from this marriage that I know was Cornelius Andrew Westh, born about 1843 in Bornholm, Denmark. Cornelius married Agnes Harriet Shannon in Victoria, Australia, in 1869. This couple went on to have 13 children. I believe that the Westh's in Australia are all related.
I hope someone can help me get started.

Thank you Isabel H. for your suggestions. I have tried familysearch and my danish root without success. My problem is that I don't have a real thread to start in Denmark. I only know my GGG 1st name, Lars, which has been written as Laurence on the familysearch site. However, I am greatful for the suggestion of 2 new sites. I am new to Rootschat.com so it is great to get a reply.

Thank you for the tip to go to DDD. I found a thread which is exciting, my GGGrandfather and GGGmother on the 1845 census. So I now have some dates. Do you know if I am able to get into BDM records in Denmark free? I haven't yet found Cornelius., my GG on any records.

Hi Lesley
It's great that you have had some success already.  The parish registers are free online. Start at the  Danish State Archives home page, click on Genealogy and read the advice on getting started. Then go to Online services,  Arkivalieronline.dk , English introduction.  The Generic instructions can be saved to your computer if you wish, and are very detailed.
Right at the end is advice on clearing  images the viewer stores on your computer (as opposed to ones you have deliberately saved). It's wise to do this from time to time as all the images you view are stored and take up a lot of space on your hard disc.
Click on Home and you will be taken to the Log in page. Once logged in choose Kirkebøger.

I have a grandfather, Lars Philip Westh, who was born 28/11/1853 on the Island of Bornholm Denmark. Seaman then Carpenter Woodville New Zealand
His fathers name was Christian Peter Westh occupation farmer and his mother's name was Wilhelmina Westh nee Rask or Trask.   Other names associated with the family Romer, Chris Ipsen.
I do believe there was a brother Cornelious.
He went to sea at 14 with his Uncle and ended up in New Zealand and married my grandmother
Agnes Gilham from Kent in England in Woodville NZ 15 November 1893

Could this be a relation of yours also.
I cant read Danish so is difficult to find any information of his origins.
Any information would be gratefully appreciated.

Houston, I have found what I think is the right family in two censuses, but it’s confusing as the names and birthplaces are not quite as expected, and vary from one census to another.

1855 Bornholm, Vester, Knudsker, Knudsker, Farm
Christian Westh, 30, Married, farmer, head, b. Rønne
Philipmine F. Rask, 28, his wife, Knudsker
Lars Philip Westh, 2, their son, Knudsker
Jens Larsen Westh, Widower, Head’s father, for whom he provides, Knudsker
Kirstine Jensen, 19, unmarried, maid, Knudsker.
[In the 1855 census transcription Lars Philip has been wrongly given his grandfather’s name. I checked the actual census].

1860 Bornholm, Vester, Knudsker, Knudsker Skoledistrikt, Farm
Jens Rømer, 37 Married, Farm Copyholder(??) head of household, born Vestermarie parish
Philipmine Margrethe Rasch, 33, married, his wife, b. Knudsker parish
Lars Philip Westh, 7, head’s stepson, b. Knudsker parish
Jens Christian Rømer, 3, head’s son, b. Knudsker parish
Jens Larsen Westh, 64, widower, maintained by head, b. Rønne
Ingerstine Olson, 26, Unmarried, maid, Sweden

I looked for the baptism of Lars Philip Westh in Knudsker and also Rønne but couldn't find it.

From the parish records: Christian Peter Westh d. 11 Nov. 1855 age 30. His widow married Jens Rømer in Knudsker on 1st April 1856. I haven’t managed to decipher all of the marriage record.

Goodness me that was great - thank you soooooo much.  I believe that is my family though there seems to be brothers names missing of which he had 5 or 6 I believe.

Lars and Christian,
Viggo and Herman
Karl and I think a Cornelious (?) 

They dont seem to be on census
Would those Parish records be the place to search.   I believe my grandfather Lars (who was a mariner/carpenter) sailed on the "Baron Aberdare" from here to Australia. Abandoned that ship and sailed back here to NZ where he jumped ship, but dont know if any other members of his family sailed with him.

You may find the people you are looking for in the Kirkebøger, but it helps to have found them in the DDD first, as it gives the birthplace. The Kirkebøger are not indexed so you have to trawl through them, and some of the writing can be difficult to read.
If the family I found is the right one, I have also found Christian and Philipmine in 1845 before their marriage, but didn't find the brothers you mentioned. Have sent you a PM.
