Do you have any clues as to where in Co. Galway Michael was born and what religion he was ?

This would help establish if records are in fact available for his family parish.

p.s. or any details of his siblings ?

He was RC

I looked at every Phillips birth for about 20 years to check if they had a father Thomas and were from Tuam or Annaghdown. Zilch results

that confirm both the father and the religion match...

I meant any sign of siblings or relations in Australia (sorry) NZ...

I'm pretty sure I have him arriving in Australia alone. A lot seemed to come to Victoria first then follow the gold to NZ

I was thinking if you had found any relations or siblings, you could follow up on them in NZ and then Ireland to see where the connection was.

The two Michaels you found are definite possibilities, but I think could be difficult to narrow down the list further without  an additional clue of some sort (location, siblings etc).

Did Michael have any daughters ?

I'm wondering if there could be one named after his mother i.e. Eleanor or Bridget... (first name or a middle name)

Also sometimes mother's maiden names can end up as middle names in later generations ...
