Owens family
« on: Monday 02 November 09 14:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi all
Looking for information on Margaret Owens and family born Sguborycoed/Eglwys Fach, Cardiganshire
abt 1848. I have found a marriage record for her marrying Thomas Andrew in 1870 in Cardiganshire.
and on census in Aberdare in later years. Unable to locate her poir to 1870. I must confess the area and district is really hard to understand and fiding it hard to locate family.

Best wishes
Lisa

Hello Lisa,

you would really need to get the marriage certificate to check for Margaret's father's name.

There is this:

1851 HO107; Piece: 2495; Folio: 15; Page: 3

Eglwysfach Scyborycoed

John Owens 34yrs Farm labourer b Montgomeryshire Machynlleth
Mary Owens 34 yrs  -do-s wife b
Mary Owens 9 yrs scholar
Owen Owens 7 yrs  -do-
Margaret Owens 4 yrs -do-
Hugh Owens 1yr

wife and children all born Llanfihangel D C Cardiganshire

I'll see if I can see them in 1861

Hi Lisa,

I helped with your Andrew family earlier - as you say it's a bit of a nightmare when you don't know the area/spellings etc.
I couldn't find Margaret in 1861 -there was a possibility - birth Llanfihangel but there was another older woman, Elizabeth and I couldn't make out who was the mother  ???
However, I do think that the 1851 looks pretty good and the marriage certificate would help.

good luck
heywood

Thanks so much for the information, I have been totally confused on this area to say the least. On some of the census's it Llanfihangel D C, then Eglwys Fach then Scybor Y Coed , MacHynlleth, and furnace. so I think I am totally confused. Is there any way of checking records for those area before 1840s ?

Thanks once again
Lisa

Hi Lisa,
I'm as confused as you! Sometimes it's also Cardiganshire and sometimes it's Monmouthshire.
It may be worth making a fresh post for some clarification with the places and also perhaps re earlier records.

good luck
