"Something" Apprentice? **Completed**
« on: Sunday 15 November 09 10:04 GMT (UK) »
Thomas Wimbush is an apprentice of some kind on the 1861 census ref RG09-308-F26-P55
Charles & Isabella Smith are Lisentiate Apothercaries; Walter Harper, an assistant Apothercary; Eliza Toogood, a house servant.
But what is the first word of Thomas' occupation?
It's been transcribed as "Simpsons" but I'm sure that's not right.
It looks like the old style double "s" in the middle, but then the ennumerator doesn't seem to use the double "s" in the word "assistant" and comparing it to the "g" in Eliza's surname, it could also be a "g", or maybe an "f"?
I'm sure it's not a "p" as the ennumerator has a definite upstroke on his "p".
In 1871, Thomas is a "Chemist & Druggist".

Ooh, I think you could be right.
Sometimes an extra couple of pairs of eyes can be so much help - thank you =)
