Robert Gardiner
« on: Sunday 06 December 09 15:18 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
im wondering if someone can help with Robert Gardiner.

Hes on the 1891,living in Whitstable and a licsensed victullar.
He has with him his niece and nephew.
Their names are Edith Payne born 1876 Stoke Newington and Albert born 1884 same place.
On 1901 Robert is living with sister Emma born 1845 Holt,Norfolk.

Emma is on the 1881,working as a servant.

I think Edith Payne married Bentley Rigden in Blean 1900.

I can find nothing on earlier census for Robert or Emma born in these places, nor what happened to Albert.

Also i cant work out the Gardiner/Payne connection.

If anyone can help with any further info id be grateful,
thanks,
Nel.

Have you managed to establish how the Paynes were related to the Gardeners? I'm struggling to find the link, assuming this is Edith in 1881

I can't see a Mary Ann Wa(r/n)stall either, sorry  :(

Hello again Tati,

theres a marriage in Blean, which is the right district j/a/s 1855 Robert Gardener 2a 817.
One of the spouses is Mary Ann Warstall, possible mis-transcription of Wanstall,a well known local name.

I dont know whether Albert and Edith Payne are connected to my Paynes yet,but circumstantial evidence suggests they could be.

On the 1881,theres John Bills and Elizabeth(nee Pain) living with his mother and stepfather John Dale.

On the same page is Elizabeths half sister Louisa and her partner Thomas Bennett.

On the 1891 Robert Gardner and the Payne children are living next door to John Dale and family.

Far from conclusive i know, but possibly more than a co-incidence.

Ive yet to establish how Robert Gardener is Edith and Alberts uncle,so if you can help there id be grateful,

thanks,

Nel.

Hello again Tati,

ive had a look at the link re Edith M,and that makes me wonder if im barking up the wrong tree.

My Paynes are descended from Richard Pain born 1827 Margate died 1855.

One of his daughters Susannah born 1852 Thanet my ggg grandmother.

Her daughter Sarah dorn 1870 Whitstable, GG Grandmother.

Daughter Emma born 1885,Whitstable, my G Grandmother, now with surname changed to Payne.

Edith m is the daughter of George Payne born 1845 Over,Cambridshire.

According to 1865,John nephew of John Payne born 1826 Over.

There is such a lack of recorded info in this part of my family that i tend to clutch at straws and look at possible co-ncidences when fishing for info.

Do you think this is just a co-incidence,
thanks,

Nel.
