Romany DNA tests
« on: Monday 04 January 10 15:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I  am  a  Scottish  Border  Romany  on  both sides  of my  family.
I  am  interested  in  having  a  DNA  test  done  to  find  out  more  about  my  more  distant  ancestors.
Could  anyone please advise me  the  best   way  to  go  about  this.

Many  thanks,

Blyth  Spirit.

Hello Blyth spirit,

Donald lock runs the Romanichal DNA project.  Google it or PM Don  on here.  You can find his posts on any of the Lock threads.

I did the test last year and matched at a distant level with Campbells and baileys who have lived in the USA since the 1700's at least.

If you are male you can easily do the test with a cheek swab, if female you need to get a brother, uncle , nephew from the same line to take the test on your behalf.

With your name you may match with president Bill Clinton who is from the Border clans.

Hi Blyth Spirit, I noticed the BBC family history site has a lot of info on DNA tests which you might find useful.
