Hi

I have now found out from a cousin that her father told her that his brother was in Paris from an early age, so am looking for any help with boarding schools that took english young children from about 1905 to the outbreak of 1st world war
Had looked on learn 4 good.com but the only Paris school was established much later.

It has been suggested to me to try french census to see if I can find my father at school, having searched the internet not had much luck with french census, don’t know if looking at wrong info as can’t find lists of names like on our censuses, any guidance would be appreciated

There were no Paris censuses taken before 1926, and generally the French censuses even where they exist have not been as widely indexed.

I think this search will be very tricky as probably there were plenty of schools in Paris and also the surrounding areas, many of which were small private institutions for which records might not survive.

You might try looking to see which schools advertised in British newspapers.  It seems there were agencies in the UK which helped arrange things - for example from 1912 I can see Madame Aubert's Agency and Griffiths, Smith, Powell, and Smith, both agencies which could arrange for tutors and governesses or provide introductions to schools in the UK as well as on the continent.

You can see a few period advertisements here also:

FRANCE. — Pastor Leon Bost, B.D., Salies-de-Bearn, Basses- Pyrenees, receives

class references.
