Chalke, Winchester, 1911
« on: Monday 25 January 10 23:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Chalke was quite a common name in Hampshire (Southampton) in 1911 so I'm finding it rather difficult to progress.

Jack Chalke (yes, he was Jack not John) b. 8 November 1913 Compton, Hampshire, England (date supplied by his daughter, not birth cert.). His marriage cert. to Gladys Eileen Emms, 28 May 1938 at St. Swithun's Church in Martyr Worthy gives his father's name as George Chalke who was a 'Small-Holder'.

That's all I know - there are quite a few 'George Chalke's' in 1911 census - if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be most grateful.

The 1911 census is pay per view only and you are not allowed to ask for 1911 lookups and we are not allowed to post details on Rootschat - see  http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,355484.0.html

You will need to buy credits to determine which is the correct entry but this link gives some tips for searching

OK, so I don't know it's Winchester for sure - but that area. Martyr Worthy and Couch Green are very close, so, when looking in Hampshire (Southampton) in general there are quite a few George Chalke's around the age that Jack's father may have been.

Like I say, I was looking for someone with a Chalke interest - not a look-up.

I have only just joined Roots Chat ,so it's probably a bit late to reply to your request.
Jack Chalke from Couch Green was my Uncle.
If it's not too late,I would furnish more info if required.
