Waltons of Carlton, Snaith
« on: Thursday 13 May 04 11:44 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have gr gr gr grandparents James Walton married to Mary Greenwood, December 1814. I know 1837 seems to be the cut off point for certificates but I was wondering if there was a way of finding a marriage entry so I could find out the parents of Mary.
I would appreciate any help
Thankyou
Liz

Hi Liz,

Have you any idea which Church the Marriage may have taken place at ?? If you have an idea then you could always check the parish records of that Church.

Hi,

just seen your msg. The church in Carlton is St. Mary's - my 5x ggf was incumbent there from the mid 1830s onwards.

For further info, you could contact the East Riding archives at:
Archives.Service@eastriding.gov.uk

They will be able to help you further.

For Carlton you should contact Selby Library on (01757) 702020 or Fax (01757) 705396

You could also try Goole Reference Library:
Gooleref.Library@eastriding.gov.uk
Tel:  01405 762187
although Carlton isn't strictly under their jurisdiction, they do have a fair bit of info about the place.

Hope this helps,
