Hi Karen

The cap badge looks to have a horse on it. Could it be a Kent unit.

Hi,

The area of the family is Lambeth, then Chelsea. The man could br Francis Prewett, with he;s mother Eliza Beeson.
If the dates don't match, not sure who it is.

A cavalry regiment, possibly hussars. He's wearing a patrol jacket and may have been an officer.

Not really, if you're lucky someone will be able to tell when the photographer was in business. I've heard mention here before that the rounded corners on the card came in at a specific point.

The cap makes me think its closer to 1900 than say the late 1870s.

Correction, the cap appears to be a field service cap which would definitely date the photo to at least the turn of the century.

Possibly he was headed to the boer war?

Hi,

Ok thanks. The person who I think it is was born 1852. Or I do have a gt gt uncle born in India. He was born 1857.
So maybe looking at the dates, they would be to old?
How do I find out about the regiment you mentioned?

Thanks

Karen

Still struggling with the other Prewetts & now more..this is easier.
Webster Bros. were at The Pavement from 1886 which is consistant with this photo as it's mid - late 1880's.
I thought Hussars as well.
There's no contact between these 2 which would be the etiquette if they were an engaged couple.
