This has all been very fascinating for me, as Magdalene Rebecca Whitehead (Dorothy's sister) was my great-grandmother. I have long been interested in Rose Selby (Magdalene and Dorothy's mother) as for some reason a great many of Magdalene's descendants have all 'had' to bear the name of Selby as a middle name, myself included.
I have often pondered at the influence this lady must have had on her family, that a family tradition should carry on for so long. I have yet to find whether any of Rose's other children continued the name likewise!
Magdalene was married twice. Firstly to an Edgar Ranger, by whom she had two children, Edgar (b c 1888) and Magdelene (b 1880). Edgar died in 1892 and she subsequently married my great-grandfather, Alfred William Ades. They had three sons who survived until adulthood - Alfred Dunstan Edmund Selby Ades, Esmund Selby Ades (my grandfather) and Alan David Selby Ades. The family can be found on both the 1901 census (in Hornsey) and the 1911 census (in Bedford).
Can anyone help me with the whereabouts of the other Whitehead siblings, Maria, Anabel, Maude and Edward in the 1901 census, or their marriages/descendants.
I would love to have a list of Dorothy's children, to add to my details of Rose's grandchildren. Please feel free to msg me AussieGaz (my distant cousin!).
Regards
Caroline Selby Ades (nee)
